Melky On The Market - Pettitte To Direct Cabrebra's Future

Melky Cabrera has been an intragal part of the Yankees over the past two seasons. Cabrera even took over as the every day center fielder from Johnny Damon whom the Yankees pryed away from their rival Red Sox.

However, ESPN Insider is reporting that the 23 year old switch hitter and defensive marvel with a cannon for an arm is being shopped for another type of arm; pitching.

Of course, if Andy Pettitte returns, the Yankees won't have to be too eager to give away such a prized player.

However, with Pettitte's situation up in the air at this point and pitchers such as Johan Santana, Erik Bedard, and Dan Haren on the block the Yankees may be willing to part with fan and team favorite in Cabrebra.

If the Yankees do trade away Cabrebra, it does not seem like the Yankees want Damon patrolling center field anymore, not that it is impossible as that is the position the Yankees signed him to.

Cabrebra however can be replaced by free agent center fielders such as Torii Hunter, Aaron Rowand, and Andruw Jones although that will cost the Yankees a nice penny compared to Cabrera who made a mere $423,400 last season.

Surely the Yankees would like to keep Cabrera, however, Pettitte's future with the Yankees may directly interfere with his future in pinstripes.
