Sick Of Official Scoring - DP Can Be Assumed

There are a few rules that just don't make a heck of a lot of sense, however one just really sticks in my craw and makes my blood boil.

Pitchers often say they don't care about their stats and ERA - what a load!

The one rule that just is a flat out joke is that you can not anticipate a double play. Why not?!

Then why have an official scorer? The official scorer is supposed to take the difficulty of the play into account and decide whether a play is a hit or an error or what have you.

So, why can't the official scorer deem whether or not a double play should be made?

Any idiot can see that when there is an easy double play ball hit and the ball either gets dropped on the relay or thrown away for no apparent reason that an error should be given.

If a runner is really breathing down the second baseman or shortstops neck, that is a different story - they may have to rush the throw to prevent getting spiked by a hard slide or even if a speedy runner is just busting it down the line, however, let me share one example.

One of my favorite players, Derek Jeter, had a ball tossed chest high to him from Robinson Cano after Manny Ramirez liner. Jeter caught the ball with ease, no runner was in his face and Ramirez is a slow runner despite running hard down the line, and Jeters throw sailed way wide of first and Manny was safe.

This would have been an inning ender, but you can't assume the double play for some reason. So, Pettitte wound up giving up a run or two and was called for giving up earned runs. How - how on earth is that an earned run and not an error?!

Pettitte you know will say that it isn't about stats, it is all about the team, however, that error can ruin his entire start. He will be forced to throw more pitches in the inning to get out of it, his stats are bloated with earned runs that shouldn't be and it just looks as if he pitches badly when he really didn't.

Pettitte is a borderline Hall of Famer - if you add up all those should have been double plays and "earned" runs that really weren't, his case to make the Hall is so much stronger.

Or maybe you don't even look at that large of an image, but look at a possible Cy Young Award that slipped through his fingers because of some of there non-errors, or just to look and see how well he pitched in a season.

Fact is, these "scoring decisions" or non scoring decisions skew a players statistics and I just can't take the stupidity of this ridiculous rule anymore.

Baseball is looking into changes like instant replay, however, there are other rules, such as this one that need to be seriously revised as well.
