Bad To Worse: Willis and Guillen Injured

Just when it looked like the Detroit Tigers hit rock bottom, nearly getting no hit by the Chicago White Sox's Gavin Floyd today, to go with their 0-7 start and current record of 2-9, it was as if a train ran over them as well; The D-Train anyway.

Dontrelle Willis has been placed on the 15 day disabled list, where he can sit next to fellow pitchers Joel Zumaya and Fernando Rodney after an MRI has shown that the 26 year old lefty has a hyperextended right knee.

Willis has had about as bad a start as the rest of his new team. He has made two starts. In his first start he posted five innings giving up three runs and had a disturbingand lack of control of the strike zone, as the White Sox drew seven walks against him.

Then in his second start, he was taken out of the ball game, pitching no innigs, leaving the game becasue of his knee, but had an earned run and gave up two more walks, again to the White Sox.

He is now 0-0 with a 7.20 ERA and on the DL after just two starts in his new uniform. According to MLB.com, not only had Wilis never been on the DL before, but he had never even missed a start before. That however is all now history as he will be on the DL the next time his spot of the rotation comes around.

With a unique wind-up, almost Hideo Nomo esk, the Tigers surely can't be doing cartwheels over the news about Willis' knee damage. He was trying to rebound from last season where he posted a record of 10-15 with a 5.17 ERA.

Carlos Guillen is also currently suffering from a hamstring strain. MLB.com reports Guillen is day to day.
