Pettitte May Be Ready To Say Goodbye

Andy Pettitte may be saying goodbye to the Yankees fans one last time despite the re-signing of his battery mate and long time team mate Jorge Posada and closer Mariano Rivera, but the 35 year old veteran southpaw has yet to make an official decision on his future.
The Yakees told Pettitte to take as much time as he needed to make a decision on his 16 million dollar option for 2008.

ESPN the Insider reports that while Pettitte has not closed the door retirement seems to be the option that he is headed towards.

ESPN the Insider also reports that the Yankees are trying to pry him away from those thoughts for another season and that Pettitte will likely make up his mind next month.

Pettitte went 15-9 last season with a 4.05 ERA. In his one post-season start - Game 2 of the ALDS and the infamous bug game - Pettitte worked six and a third scoreless innings in a masterful "Houdini" like performance, picking off Kenny Lofton as he tried to steal third base in the fifth and worked around a leadoff triple by Grady Sizemore in the sixth.

Pettitte has a career win loss record of 201-113 with a 3.83 ERA. However it was not necessarily his season performance that made Pettitte the great pitcher he is.

Pettitte was always known as a big game pitcher and the man you wanted on the bump when it really mattered. His career post-season record is 14-9 with a 3.96 ERA.He helped the Houston Astros make their first World Series appearance and owns four World Series rings with the Yankees.

Pettitte came up with the Yankees in 1995 but the Texan went home to play for the Houston Astros from 2004-2006 before returning back to where it all began last season. The Yankees are hoping Pettitte comes back to the Bronx and helps them win their 27th World Championship before Pettitte hangs up his spikes.
